Reinerio (Rey) Hernandez attended Rutgers College, Cornell University and was a PhD Candidate at UC Berkeley in City and Regional Planning. He was also the recipient of a National Science Foundation PhD Fellowship at UC Berkeley.

Rey held the position of Adjunct Professor for six years at the New School for Social Research and the City University of New York. He served as Director of the Center for a Sustainable Urban Environment at the City University of New York and as the Director of the Office of Community Environmental Planning for the City of New York. Rey is currently employed as an Estate Tax Attorney with the IRS, US Department of Treasury. He resides with his family, all of whom are experiencers, in Miami, Florida.
